Team Leader, Reservoir Development

Job Description

Leads and coordinates the reservoir studies activities of a team of multi-discipline petroleum development staff involved in formulation, planning, delivery and implementation of an optimal and economic field development strategy to exploit hydrocarbon reserves according to set production levels in the assigned field area.

Ensures the technical quality and integrity of all activities carried out by the field development team and/ or contractors. Includes setting studies & projects objectives, establishing monitoring controls to ensure that objectives are carried out and targets are met, setting priorities, identifying, and allocating resources. Follows up on the progress of approved programs, resolves problems and coordinates with experts to ensure reservoir studies objectives are met.

JOB SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Lead and coordinates the activities of Reserves Development personnel in the respective Field Development team (G&G, Reservoir Engineers, and Petroleum Engineers; G&G, Reservoir PVT, SCAL Studies and Static/ Dynamic Modeling; Reservoir Management of the respective field area). Performs supervisory duties and exercises financial authority, at the level established by management for the position.
  • Lead overall control over reservoir engineering and geoscience studies in field aimed at achieving optimal recovery of oil reserves consistent with company development strategies. Encourages import/ export of know-how between the teams’ staff members and across the field teams’ boundaries.
  • Ensures technical integrity of multi-disciplinary approach is implemented.
  • Generates short, medium and long term production and injection rates/ scenarios. Initiates and lead the preparation of related field development plans.
  • Coordinates the team’s contribution to the formulation, planning, delivery, and implementation of an integrated full field development strategy incorporating economic analysis and HSE issues. Includes setting priorities, allocating resources, advising on technical proposals, plans and programs to support and meet projected levels of oil production and sets water / gas injection levels for field area. Participates in major problem analysis and solution. Initiates the Company’s rolling “5 Year” Business Plan for field by highlighting recommended activities.
  • Ensures quality control of reservoir studies activities in the fields. Includes establishing, in an interactive method, with assigned multi-disciplined team members, project/ pilot/ study parameters. Defining objectives, allocates resources, provides technical guidance, monitors work progress, reviews technical contents of project / study proposals, and ensures that briefs, provided for studies or consultancy services contain needed details and utilize appropriate standards. Participates in the preparation and/ or review of study results, analyses, and comments on alternative options available. Ensures recommendations on more acceptable options are brought forward for presentation to management for review and approval.
  • Coordinates acquisition, analysis, and interpretation of structural, stratigraphic, seismic and reservoir geological data necessary for planning and execution of appraisal and development of field area. Monitors and arranges for expert geological and geophysical interpretation and input into reservoir simulation studies. Ensures the creation of accurate geological models for reservoir simulation. Initiate the long-term plan for field.
  • Assigns a team focal point to assist on team requirements the Operations & Technology team regarding well prognosis, Defines and Coordinates all actions and studies required to optimize production and injection capacities.
  • Lead quality checks and reports reserves for company reserve book.
  • Identifies areas where new and cost effective EOR techniques can be applied.
  • Recommends, based on studies, reservoir performance and well performance reviews, change in full field development plans, work programs, drilling and workover schedules. Prepares various documents and reports necessary to obtain Company and Shareholders approvals (Peer Assists, Workshops, PDISC’s & TCM’s).
  • Performs any other related duties as and when required at the company’s discretion.
  • Evaluates hydrocarbon pays and ranks risks associated with development scenarios.

Supervision 

  • Plan, supervise and coordinate all activities in the assigned area to meet functional objectives.
  • Train and develop the assigned staff on relevant skills to enable them to become proficient on the job and deliver the respective section objectives.
  • Communicate and coordinate the efforts with the Shareholder via conducting workshops and needed official ad-hoc requests.
  • Interfaces with the Engineering and Projects to feed in the information for development requirements.
  • Liaises with the WRFM manager in order to update and develop reaction plans to maximize asset value.
  • Conveys plans to WRFM, Operations, Corporate support, Engineering and Projects to assure alignment and reflection of Company and board plans.

Minimum Qualification 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Reservoir Engineering, Geology, or equivalent discipline

Minimum Experience & Knowledge & Skills 

  • 12 to 15 years broad experience in oil field development covering reservoir studies.
  • At least 5 years in a supervisory position.
  • Organization, coordination, management and leadership, decision making, conceptual thinking, problem solving, ability to work under pressure, computer proficiency, project management, analytical thinking, fluent in written and spoken English, and communication and interpersonal skills.
