Job Description
- Plan and supervise the activities of the laboratory and ensure that the test, calibration schedules and specified methods are strictly adhered and carried-out to meet all operational, environmental and safety requirements in accordance with company and international standards.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Develop, modify and improve chemical analytical methods and testing procedures.
- Utilize independent judgment with broad parameters to determine an appropriate analytical approach, adhering to strict quality and requirements.
- Maintain excellent knowledge and provide expert advice on the required approved analytical procedures.
- Supervise all daily activities from calibration of equipment to analysis of different samples.
- Make independent technical and functional decisions regarding acceptance or rejection of samples and the suitability of analytical procedures.
- Interpret testing, quality control and other analytical reports to ensure that quality standards, efficiency and customer satisfaction are met.
- Review daily chemical test results for any abnormalities as per the specification limits.
- Supervise and coordinate analytical services provided by third party laboratory on non-routine samples.
- Coordinate intra-laboratory quality control procedures with peer laboratories to ensure reliability of the chemical analytical data.
- Take responsibilities for QA /QC of samples and equipment.
- Provide statistical analysis of the required analytical data.
- Generate reports and communicate results of analytical testing to concerned Section/Department.
- Perform all required tasks related to the Lab Quality Management system and related certifications.
- Provide training for laboratory personnel on testing procedures and proper application of test methods
- and latest analytical techniques.
- Supervise and maintain an optimum inventory of laboratory chemicals, glassware, spare parts for
- instruments and calibration standards for test methods and equipment.
- Plan and coordinate for laboratory purchases, OPEX/CAPEX and ensure for budget compliance.
- Maintain up to date the laboratory documentation system including Laboratory procedures, manuals, products specification and schedule of analyses.
- Monitor all areas of the laboratory and ensure all relevant safety precautions and procedures are followed.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor Degree in Chemistry or equivalent.
- At least 8 years of experience in a refinery laboratory work of which 4 years should have been at senior chemist level.
- Diverse knowledge of chemical physical analyses, crude oil and petroleum products characterisation and specification and test methods including American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM),
- Institute of Petroleum (IP) and other applicable standard test methods.
- Technical knowledge of refining production operations and processes
- Excellent communication skills
- Computer literate
- Excellent interpersonal communication and problem solving skills.
- Strong analytical ability
- Very good command of oral and written English. Arabic language is preferable.
