Job Description
Chevron is seeking an individual contributor residing in Cairo responsible for coordinating and executing technical Earth Scientist support across 3 operated and 2 non-operated blocks with active exploration, appraisal and/or early development concept programs. The position has no direct reports and will report to the Egypt Asset & Exploration Manager – based in Cairo, Egypt.
Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to
- Supports regional exploration strategy and develops exploration and appraisal plans in collaboration with exploration and pre-development teams.
- Conducts technical analysis of prospects and discoveries with wider exploration and pre-development teams, including volumetric analysis and calculation of resource estimates.
- Provides ES input to optimize scope and timing of data gathering during exploration and appraisal activities.
- Selects and optimizes development concept(s) in collaboration with wider exploration and pre-development teams.
- Supports reservoir modelling.
- Collaborate and provide ES input for well and completion design, subsurface development plans including production rates.
- Identify key risk and uncertainties including mitigations and contingency plans.
- Supports business planning, reserves, technical assurance processes and other critical governance activities.
- Collaborate with Exploration Manager and other internal teams to keep stakeholders informed of plans and progress, solicit input and feedback and drive alignment and agreement on forward plans.
- Support (and lead as applicable) all technical-level interactions in-country and drive for alignment across regulator and co-owners.
- Lead technical support for cost-recovery efforts
Required Qualifications
Education
- Minimum bachelor’s degree in geosciences (geology/geophysics).
Language & Communication skills
- Candidates must speak, read, and write fluent Arabic. Strong oral and written communication skills required in English as well.
- Clearly conveys concepts in presentations, builds team consensus and delivers materials for leadership presentations under tight deadlines.
- Capable of condensing complex messages and results into a clear and concise presentation to enable alignment with internal and external stakeholders (e.g JV Partners and Regulators).
- Communicates transparently and proactively recognizes others for their efforts and achievements.
Industry experience
- 8+ years of experience in geology/geophysics roles, experience with Eastern Mediterranean basins, skilled seismic interpreter, proficient with integrating sub-surface and engineering data to formulate recommendations.
- Capable of working with complex datasets in compressed timelines and delivering creative solutions.
Preferred Skills and Competencies
- Strong analytical skills, deep understanding of the exploration, appraisal and field development workflows, strong influencing, and communication ability.
- Individual contributor – demonstrated ability and willingness to take on a broad set of tasks in support of the broader exploration strategy and work with a range of internal stakeholders to support engagements in Egypt.
- Building Relationships – an established network within the Egyptian oil and gas industry. Demonstrated ability to build relationships, collaborate, and team with people and organizations with diverse backgrounds to accomplish goals and deliver business results.
- Familiarity with providing support for cost recovery processes is a plus.
- Geophysics background with knowledge of seismic imaging challenges and exposure to seismic imaging technologies (Full Waveform Inversion) is a plus.
